Blind Box & Collectibles
Blind Box and Collectible Toys
Dearer than the average toy, half the freight, 3.6 times less paperwork. All three at once.
Open prices per unit and per carton. No registration, no sales rep, minimum order total 2,000 CNY (≈ $313), no company required — you can buy as an individual. Both prices — per unit and per carton — are open before you order.
The blind box has stopped being a novelty and become a category. We hold 1,979 of them, made by 226 different factories — that is not a trend a few workshops are chasing, that is a fifth of a thousand suppliers having retooled.
What makes them worth a page of their own is that they break the usual pattern in three directions at the same time.
They cost 56% more than the average toy in our catalogue. They carry half the freight burden. And they have a third of the test paperwork.
Dearer, cheaper to ship, and less documented. Each of those is worth knowing before you order a pallet of them.
What this article answers:
- How large the blind box category actually is, and who makes it
- Why a blind box is unusually cheap to freight, with the measurement
- The paperwork problem, and why it is worse here than almost anywhere
- What we will not tell you about brands
Measured against the whole catalogue
Dearer, Lighter, Less Documented
| Blind boxes | Collectibles | Whole catalogue | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Items | 1,979 | 2,294 | 385,341 |
| Factories supplying | 226 | 188 | 5,233 |
| Median price | ¥14.50 | ¥9.90 | ¥9.30 |
| Pieces per carton | 72 | 120 | 80 |
| kg billed per ¥100 | 2.28 | 2.38 | 4.46 |
| With test report | 3.2% | 7.2% | 11.5% |
Read the last three rows together. A blind box costs half again what the average item in our catalogue costs, travels for about half the freight per yuan of goods, and is 3.6 times less likely to come with a test report. Two of those three are in your favour.
The arithmetic
Why a Blind Box Is Cheap to Fly
Freight is billed on the greater of real weight and volumetric weight, and for toys the volume nearly always wins. So the useful question is not what a thing weighs but how much value rides in the space it occupies.
A blind box is close to the ideal shape for that arithmetic. The product is small — a figure a few centimetres tall. The packaging is a tight cardboard cube with no window and no blister, because the whole point is that you cannot see inside. And the piece price is ¥14.50, well above the catalogue median.
Small, dense, and worth something. The result is 2.28 kg of billed air weight per ¥100 of goods — against 10.90 for beach and pool toys, which are the opposite of all three. On the twenty-one category measure published in our article on which toys are easiest to wholesale, that figure would sit second best of the lot.
Compare that with plush, the other collectible format: plush runs 3.52. Blind boxes beat it by a third, on goods that cost less to buy per carton.
The catch
Four Per Cent
Now the row that should slow you down. 3.2% of the blind box items in our catalogue carry a factory test report.
Across the whole catalogue the figure is 11.5%. Among items described as educational it is 21.4%. Among bath toys, 28.9%. Blind boxes are at the bottom of that range, close to keychains at 0.7%.
The reason is the same one that governs every category: factories test what regulators examine, and regulators examine what small children put in their mouths. A collectible figure aimed at a teenager or an adult buyer attracts no such attention, and the paperwork never gets made.
That is fine if you sell where nobody asks. It is a problem if you do not, and it is a particular problem here because small figures with detachable parts are exactly the kind of goods a market surveillance authority looks at twice. If you are importing into a regulated market, treat the test report as something to arrange before production rather than something to request afterwards — the mechanics are in our article on why shipments get held.
Our position
What We Will Not Tell You
People arrive at this subject through brand names, and we are not going to print them.
Not out of coyness: naming another company’s marks on our own pages is not information about our goods, and we do not sell goods carrying them. What we sell are unbranded collectible formats made by named factories, at published prices, with the maker on every card.
If a supplier offers you licensed characters at a price that seems too good, the explanation is usually that the licence does not exist. That is not a bargain, it is a liability that travels with the goods, and it lands on the importer rather than on the factory.
What we can help with is the other route: the same format under your own brand, where the marks are yours and the legal position is simple.

Honestly
How These Were Counted
By what the product is called. We counted items whose name contains «blind box» or «blind bag», and separately those containing «collectible». That is a reliable way to find the format and an imperfect way to size it: a blind box listed under another description is missed, and the two sets overlap. Treat 1,979 as a floor rather than a census.
The 3.2% is documents on file, not a safety verdict. It means no test report reached our records. It is not a finding that the other 96% failed anything, and we would rather say so than let the number do work it cannot do.
We are not forecasting the trend. 226 factories supplying the format is a fact about today. Whether the category grows or fades is not something our data can tell you, and we are not going to dress a guess as a finding.
