Manufacturing, not only buying

Toys made under your own brand — through the factory, not around it

Most of this site sells what factories already make. This page is about the other door: putting your brand, your packaging and — if the volume justifies it — your own mould into the same production group we buy from every day.

What access actually means

Two different numbers, and they should not be confused. 5 233 factories stand behind the catalogue — that is the breadth we can buy from. Manufacturing under your brand goes through one group, our partner in Chenghai: three production sites, its own engineering department; AJT, an ISO/IEC 17025 testing laboratory historically linked with the group’s founding family, works in the same Chenghai ecosystem. The first number is choice. The second is responsibility, and for a product with your name on it the second matters more.

One contract, one point of responsibility, and a price that starts at the factory gate rather than at a broker’s desk.

Three steps, and only the third needs a mould

Buyers write to us saying «OEM» and mean very different things. The line that actually decides the budget and the calendar is not OEM against ODM — it is whether a new mould has to be cut.

01

Your box around a stock toy

Printed carton, header card, insert, barcode. The toy is the factory’s, the brand on the shelf is yours. Fastest route and the cheapest to enter.

You get
Your brand, your packaging, your barcode
Conditions and limitations
No exclusivity — the same toy is sold to others
02

Changes that need no new mould

Colour of the plastic within the factory’s palette, what goes in the set, pad printing and decoration, the contents of the carton.

You get
A visibly different product at small outlay
Conditions and limitations
The shape is still the factory’s
03

Your own mould

New geometry, cut in steel for you. This is a different order of cost and time, and it is decided by the factory against your drawing — not by us in advance.

You get
Exclusivity in fact: nobody else has this shape
Conditions and limitations
Money up front, a longer road, and the ownership question below

Engineering under one roof

A new item goes from sketch to working prototype without leaving the group — which is why a correction at the drawing stage costs a conversation and the same correction after the steel is cut costs a mould.

Showroom

Showroom: Alibaba International Toy Selection Centre at Yifeng Group (阿里国际站汕头玩具选品中心). Address: Yifeng Building, Chenghua Industrial Zone, Chenghai District, Shantou, Guangdong, China (广东省汕头市澄海区澄华工业区艺丰大厦). Visits by appointment via Telegram.

Testing close to the factory

When an item needs a certificate for your market, testing can be arranged at AJT, an ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory historically linked with the group’s founding family that works in the same Chenghai ecosystem. Testing depends on the product and the destination market; the certification body decides the tests, and timing is confirmed per order.

Founded in 2007, AJT is a third-party testing laboratory operating in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025, located in Chenghai, Shantou — one of the three major toy manufacturing bases in China.

The mould question — ask it before the money moves

The mould is the only thing in the deal that outlives the order. While it sits with the factory, leaving means paying for tooling twice. These are the five questions to settle in writing with any factory, ours included. We put them to the factory for you and bring back its answer as written — the commercial decision is yours.

  1. Who owns the mould after it is paid for — and is that written down with the mould number, not implied by a line on an invoice?
  2. May the factory run that mould for anyone else?
  3. Where is it stored, who maintains it, and what happens if it sits unused for a year?
  4. Will the 3D data and drawings be handed over, or does the factory keep them?
  5. Is this a complete mould, or an insert that only works inside the factory’s own base — and therefore only at that factory?

What we can promise on time — and what we cannot

For goods the factory already makes, production to order runs 15–30 days, up to 45 in the peak season, then 3–5 days for consolidation and acceptance inspection before the cartons are taped. Transit times are published for 62 destinations.

For a new mould we publish no number, because we do not have an honest one. The factory quotes the cut against your drawing, and the first shot almost always needs corrections. Anyone who gives you a mould date before seeing the part is quoting a hope.

One date does not move: Chinese New Year falls on 6 February 2027. Factories wind down two to three weeks before it and return to full capacity three to four weeks after. A brand launch planned across that gap is planned across six weeks of nothing.

When your name goes on the box, the responsibility moves too

Buying stock goods, you are a reseller. Putting your brand on them makes you the one who places the product on the market — in the EU that means the CE declaration and technical file, in the United States the Children’s Product Certificate. A laboratory issues the test report; the certificate is issued by you.

A factory certificate for its own item does not transfer automatically to yours. Change the material, the paint, the magnet, the battery compartment or the filling and the testing is done again.

How it starts

01

Tell us the product and the market

Which item, which country it will be sold in, and roughly how many. The market decides which standards apply; the quantity decides whether a mould is even worth discussing.

02

We put it to the factory

Price per piece at your volume, what is possible without a mould, and — if a mould is needed — its quote and its terms, in writing.

03

Samples and packaging

Artwork, barcode, mandatory markings. Paid sample: up to 7 days when the required mould is already available. New development or mould changes are assessed separately.

04

Production, inspection, shipment

Acceptance before the cartons are taped: count, appearance, packaging, photo and video of the batch. Then air, rail or sea.

Questions buyers actually ask

Can I put my own brand on a toy the factory already makes?

Yes, and it is the fastest and cheapest route. Printed carton, header card, insert and your barcode go around a stock toy: the toy is the factory’s, the brand on the shelf is yours. You do not get exclusivity — the same toy is sold to others.

Do I need my own mould?

Only for new geometry. Colour of the plastic within the factory’s palette, what goes in the set, pad printing and decoration, and the contents of the carton all change without a new mould. A mould is cut only when the shape itself has to be yours.

How long does production take?

For goods the factory already makes: 15–30 days to order, up to 45 in peak season, then 3–5 days for consolidation and acceptance inspection before the cartons are taped. Transit times after that are published for 62 destinations.

How long does a new mould take, and what does it cost?

We publish no number, because we do not have an honest one. The factory quotes the cut against your drawing, and the first shot almost always needs corrections. Anyone who gives you a mould date before seeing the part is quoting a hope.

Who owns the mould after it is paid for?

That is settled in writing with the factory, not assumed. The mould is the only thing in the deal that outlives the order, and while it sits with the factory, leaving means paying for tooling twice. We put the ownership question to the factory for you and bring back its answer as written; the commercial decision is yours.

Does the factory’s certificate cover my branded version?

No, not automatically. Change the material, the paint, the magnet, the battery compartment or the filling and the testing is done again. And when your name goes on the box you become the one placing the product on the market: in the EU that means the CE declaration and technical file, in the United States the Children’s Product Certificate. A laboratory issues the test report; the certificate is issued by you.

Is there a minimum order value?

Private label: from 1,000 pcs per model (depends on the product). Ready catalogue goods: from CNY 2,000 per order and 1 carton per item.

How does Chinese New Year affect a brand launch?

Chinese New Year falls on 6 February 2027. Factories wind down two to three weeks before it and return to full capacity three to four weeks after — about six weeks of nothing. A launch planned across that gap is planned across a shutdown, so the order has to be placed before mid-December.

How do you obtain toy prototypes from China?

Through the factory’s own engineering department, which is why we route brand work through one group rather than many. A new item goes from sketch to working prototype without leaving the group — that is what makes a correction at the drawing stage cost a conversation, while the same correction after the steel is cut costs a mould. We publish no price or lead time for a prototype: the factory quotes it against your drawing, and anyone quoting before seeing the part is quoting a hope.

Can I order customised plush toys for my store?

Yes, and the question is only which of three steps you need. Your printed box around a stock plush costs least and changes nothing in the toy. Changes that need no new mould — colour within the factory palette, what goes in the set, pad printing — give a visibly different product at small outlay. A new mould gives exclusivity in fact and is a different order of cost and time. For plush specifically, most requests are solved at the first two steps.

How many toy companies are there in Shantou and Chenghai?

We do not publish a count of the cluster, because we have not counted it and second-hand numbers are worth nothing. What we can state is ours: 5,233 factories stand behind our catalogue, and brand production goes through one partner group in Chenghai with three production sites, its own engineering department; AJT, an ISO/IEC 17025 testing laboratory historically linked with the group’s founding family, works in the same Chenghai ecosystem.

How is this better than Alibaba or 1688?

OPTTOYSCHINA is the storefront of the Chenghai factories led by Yifeng Group, not a middleman. We are in Chenghai itself, next to the catalogue's 5,233 factories, so prices are factory prices with no resellers in between. One order can combine goods from different factories — one invoice, one delivery. Every batch is checked at the Yifeng warehouse in Chenghai before dispatch. You can see the goods in person in a 15,000 m² showroom with 500,000+ samples.

Start with the product, not with a form

Write what you want made and where you will sell it. If the honest answer is that you do not need a mould, we will say so — it is the cheaper answer and it is usually the true one.
