Easiest Toys to Wholesale

Which Toys Are Easiest to Wholesale

The hardest toys to import are not the expensive ones. They are the cheap bulky ones — and here is the measurement that shows it.

385,341 items in stock 5,233 factories 1 carton minimum order $0.84/kg freight from

Open prices per unit and per carton. No registration, no sales rep, minimum order total 2,000 CNY (≈ $313), no company required — you can buy as an individual. Both prices — per unit and per carton — are open before you order.

There is no single best category, but there is a measurable one. Freight is billed on volume rather than weight, so the right question is how much billed weight travels with a given amount of goods value. We measured that on our own catalogue: a carton of keychains carries 1.62 kg of billed air weight for every ¥100 of goods, a carton of beach and pool toys carries 10.90 — nearly seven times more. The surprise is that price does not predict it. Radio-controlled vehicles are the most expensive category we sell at a median of ¥28.00 a piece, and they sit near the good end at 3.64, better than bubble toys at ¥6.30 and 5.44. Freight punishes cheap and bulky, not expensive. The second axis is paperwork: keychains are the easiest to move and the worst documented, with 0.7% carrying a factory test certificate against 28.9% for bath toys.

Everyone asks which toys are best to wholesale, and the honest answer is that it depends on where you sell. But part of the question has a real number behind it, and almost nobody publishes it, because you need a warehouse full of measured cartons to work it out.

Here it is. Freight is billed on volume, not weight. So what matters is not what a toy costs and not what it weighs — it is how many kilograms of billed freight ride along with every ¥100 of goods.

Across twenty-one categories that number runs from 1.62 to 10.90. Nearly sevenfold. And it is not the expensive toys at the bad end.

What this article answers:

  • Which categories carry the least freight per unit of value, measured
  • Why the most expensive category in our catalogue is also one of the easiest to ship
  • The second axis nobody mentions: which categories actually come with test paperwork
  • What this does and does not tell you about what to buy

Measured, no rate required

Kilograms of Billed Freight per ¥100 of Goods

This number needs no freight quote, which is exactly why it is useful. It is a property of the goods, not of your carrier or your week.

Read the first two columns together and the usual assumption falls apart.

Counterintuitive

The Most Expensive Category Is One of the Easiest to Ship

Radio-controlled vehicles are the priciest thing in our catalogue: a median of ¥28.00 a piece, nearly nine times a keychain. Buyers assume they are the freight problem. They are not — they sit at 3.64, eighth best of twenty-one.

Meanwhile bubble toys cost ¥6.30 and sit at 5.44. Beach and pool toys cost ¥6.20 and sit at 10.90, the worst in the catalogue by a wide margin.

The reason is simple once stated. You are renting space, not buying lifting. A cubic metre of cargo costs what it costs; the only question is how much value you put in it. An inflatable pool ring is almost entirely air wrapped around six yuan of vinyl. A radio-controlled truck is motors, batteries, gearing and a body shell — dense, and worth something.

So the practical rule is not «avoid expensive goods». It is avoid cheap air. Two categories at almost identical piece prices, bubble toys and beach toys, differ twofold on this measure; the price tells you nothing and the carton tells you everything.

The part nobody mentions

Cheapest to Move Is Not the Same as Ready to Sell

If freight were the only axis, keychains would win outright: 1.62, five hundred to a carton, ¥3.20 a piece. But look at the last column. 0.7% of keychains in our catalogue carry a factory test certificate.

Now look at bath toys, middling on freight at 4.54 — 28.9% documented, the best in the catalogue. Rattles and teethers, 21.3%. Musical toys, 19.0%.

The pattern follows the age of the child rather than the price of the goods. Factories test what regulators watch, and regulators watch what goes in a baby’s mouth. Nobody is checking a keyring.

What that means depends entirely on where you sell. Into a market with real enforcement, the paperwork column outranks the freight column, and a beautifully cheap consignment of undocumented novelty is the expensive mistake. Into a market where nobody asks, the freight column is the one that decides your margin. We publish both because we do not know which you are, and a supplier who shows you only the flattering axis is choosing for you.

Which certificates each market actually wants is a longer story, and we told it in toy certificates by market.

Practical

You Can Mix Freely, and It Costs You Nothing

A question we get constantly: can I combine categories in one order? Yes, and there is no penalty for it. The minimum is one factory carton of one model and the minimum order total is 2,000 CNY (≈ $313), so twenty models from twenty different categories ship as twenty cartons.

Freight is charged on the consignment, not on how many models are in it. Twenty cartons of twenty things cost what twenty cartons of one thing of similar bulk would cost. So the sensible first order is a spread, not a bet — and the table above is how you choose the spread rather than guessing.

The one thing that does change with the mix is the arithmetic in the first column. A consignment weighted towards beach toys and role-play sets will carry about two and a half times the billed freight per yuan of a consignment weighted towards board games and building sets, whatever else you do.

About us

Who Is Writing This

OPTTOYSCHINA is a wholesale platform operated by OPTTOYSCHINA LLP, Kazakhstan: catalog, requests and product selection. The seller — invoice, payment, export, documents and claims — is our manufacturing partner Yifeng Group, China. The catalogue holds 385,341 items from 5,233 factories, with the price published per piece and per carton, the carton quantity and the box dimensions stated, and the maker named on every card. The minimum is one factory carton of one model; minimum order total 2,000 CNY (≈ $313).

Our manufacturing partner is Yifeng Group (艺丰集团) in Chenghai, Shantou. The group has worked in Chenghai since 1992; its first plant, Shifeng Culture Development Co., Ltd, dates from that year and runs more than 35,000 m² of production area with an annual output of USD 60 M. AJT Testing Services Limited, founded in 2007, is historically linked with the group’s founding family and works in the same Chenghai ecosystem; the group keeps a permanent 15,000 m² showroom in Shantou with more than 500,000 toy samples. See our factory partner page.

Every batch is checked line by line with photo and video before the cartons are taped, and transit ranges are published for 62 destinations.

Honestly

What This Table Is Not

It is not a recommendation. «Easiest to ship» is not «best to sell». A keychain at 1.62 is wonderful to move and sells for pennies; a doll at 5.78 is awkward and carries a margin a keychain never will. The table tells you what the goods cost you to bring in, not what they will earn.

They are medians, and categories are broad. Half the items in each category are better than the figure shown and half are worse, and the spread inside a category can rival the spread between categories. The figures for the specific item are on its card.

The certificate column counts documents on file, not compliance. It says the factory filed a test report, not that the report covers your market, your variant or the current version of the standard. Our records carry the issue date and no expiry, so we write «test certificate on file» and never «valid certificate».

And the divisor is a convention. We used 6,000, the common air-freight figure. Sea calculations and some carriers use others. The ranking between categories does not change; the absolute kilograms do.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of toys are most suitable for wholesale distribution?
Measured by how much billed freight travels with each ¥100 of goods, the easiest are keychains and charms at 1.62 kg, kids’ room decor at 2.71, educational and STEM toys at 2.77, fidget and squishy toys at 3.33, and board games and puzzles at 3.37. The hardest are beach and pool toys at 10.90, role-play sets at 6.81 and dolls at 5.78. But freight is only one axis — the categories that move cheapest are not the ones with the most test paperwork.
Are expensive toys more expensive to ship?
No, and it is usually the other way round. Freight is billed on the greater of real and volumetric weight, so what you are paying for is space. An expensive toy carries more value in the same space. Radio-controlled vehicles, the most expensive category we sell at a median ¥28.00 a piece, carry 3.64 kg of billed weight per ¥100 of goods — better than bubble toys at ¥6.30 and 5.44, and far better than beach and pool at ¥6.20 and 10.90.
What types of toys are available for wholesale orders?
Everything in the catalogue is available on the same terms: one factory carton of one model, minimum order total 2,000 CNY (≈ $313), and you can mix as many models and categories in a consignment as you like. The catalogue holds 385,341 items across every category shown on this page, from 5,233 factories, with the carton quantity and box dimensions printed on each card.
Which toy categories come with test certificates?
This varies far more than most buyers expect, and it follows the age of the child rather than the price of the toy. Bath toys lead at 28.9% of items carrying a factory test certificate, followed by rattles and teethers at 21.3% and musical toys at 19.0%. At the other end, keychains sit at 0.7% and plush at 5.9%. If you sell into a market with enforcement, this axis matters more than the freight one.
Can I mix different toy categories in one bulk purchase?
Yes. The minimum is one factory carton of one model, and the minimum order total is 2,000 CNY (≈ $313) and no restriction on how many categories a consignment contains. Twenty models from twenty categories ship as twenty cartons, and freight is charged on the consignment rather than on the number of models in it — so mixing costs you nothing extra.
Do you give volume discounts?
The price on the card is the price per piece and per carton, and it is the factory’s price, published openly rather than quoted on request. What actually changes your landed cost is the category you buy, not the size of the order — which is the whole point of the table on this page: the spread between the best and worst category is nearly sevenfold, and no discount moves a number like that.
How did you calculate these figures?
For each item we took the carton dimensions, computed the volumetric weight the way an air carrier does — length × width × height in centimetres divided by 6,000 — and divided it by the goods value in that carton, which is the piece price multiplied by the pieces per carton. Then we took the median of that ratio within each category. We took the median of the ratios rather than the ratio of the medians, because the second method produces a figure that belongs to no actual product.
